How Does A Gas Furnace Work
December 30th, 2011
Controlling the temperature inside the house is the work of an indoor climate-control system. One commonly used system is the forced air system. This method uses your gas furnace or electric air heating equipment to heat or cool air in the house.
How does a gas furnace work?
It works from combusting natural gas and warming the passing cool air that is pulled in by the blower. The warm air goes back into the rooms. This system uses two sets of ducts, for warm and cool air. The thermostat controls the flow of air by using the temperature as a gauge in letting the cold air out and getting more warm air in. The forced air system is compatible with the programmable thermostat systems available today. These allow greater control over the heat or cold coming in and out of the house and helps in the efficiency of the heating or cooling systems.
Air circulation inside the house is controlled by the thermostat. The blower on the furnace pulls in air from an exchanger. This is a large grill located in the floor, ceiling or wall of the house. The air flows through the ducts into the plenum of the furnace. It is located on the opposite side of the heat exchanger. Heat from the combusted gas warms the passing air and the warm air rises back into the ducts that run to the air vents on each rooms.
How does a gas furnace work efficiently?
There are a number of HVAC companies who offer affordable system maintenance packages for your heating and cooling system. They can keep your system running efficiently by maintaining the air filters clean and check for leaks on ducts. Air filters in your home should be check once a month for cleaning or replacements. Air leakage on the ducts affects the humidity level of the rooms. This in turn will increase the amount of heat needed to maintain the desired temperature and add up to the fuel consumption of the burners. Ducts can be easily repaired by using an HVAC tape. Burners should be cleaned annually to prevent accumulation of debris from the combusted natural gas.
